Copper CanyonTrain Bike Transport
Is it possible to load your bike on the train?
Planning a trip from West to East in early January, '05. If not, suggested routes from Creel to Los Michos. Prefer mostly paved roads because riding buddy is on a Transalp. Any info appreciated. Cleveland Steve |
Yes. There are two trains, the first class train and the second class one that leaves an hour later. This second train has a goods car that you can put your bike in. I took the train from El Fuerte to Creel. To load the bike a ramp was available in El Fuerte. In Creel The bike was pushed onto a trolley and then manhandled off. This part was a bit tricky and I only have an Africa Twin (220kgs approx). One other point, the tank had to be drained. Can't recall the exact cost - about $30 for the bike.
As for riding routes to Los Mochis, it is possible but I failed in my attempt to ride to Creel. An unpaved road follows the railway from Creel to Dividisero and beyond (maybe wrong spelling). There is also a road (pretty rough though) from Batopilas to the coast. Check with Frederico at Casa Carolina in La Bufa for further info on this route when you are down there. There is some issue about safety on some of these back roads. I was advised not to travel by myself. Hope this helps. Let me know if you have any other questions.
