Go to Costa Rica tomorrow? Aduana problema
Hey guys. I am currently in Leon, Nicaragua. I have been here for 2 months tomorrow studying Spanish and digging the vibe. After 30 days, I needed to go to the aduana in Managua to get a 30 day extension, which was a buck a day, $30 total. I then had to return at least a day later (i went back a few days later) to get the actual paperwork. Today, 1 day before my extension expires, I went back to the aduana. I was informed that only one extension was allowed (this is contrary to what I was told the last time) and that I would have to leave the country for 2 days before I could return and have my bike legally in the country! Otherwise, a $100 fine will be imposed when I leave the country.
I was headed south anyway, but I was planning on spending a couple of weeks in Granada, the Ometepe islands, and San Juan del Sur. Without getting into too much boring detail, I had a really good and well thought out basic itinerary laid out, which would allow me to see and do everything I wanted to, and still keep a commitment to meet someone in San Jose on April 6th. Having to leave for Costa Rica tomorrow (I know, poor me!) seriously changes some things, and if I go tomorrow I will eventually end up having to cut some things out of my plans. The way I see it, I can either: A. Do what they say and keep heading south (don't want to because will miss some things) B. Do what they say and return back to Nicaragua in a couple of days (don't know if the time and costs involved in the extra border crossings are worth it). C. Say "f*** it", do my thing, and eat the fine (and risk some other fines or punishments I may not know about). $100 is a bit much for me to just drop on something I can avoid. I had a similar problem in Baja a few months ago, and these $100 fines add up! I sometimes have a habit of asking opinions of others on here of things that are ultimately a personal choice. I realize that is the case here. But it would still be great to have some insight into my situation, and maybe find some things out from you guys I wasn't aware of that will ultimately help me to decide what to do. Also, I posted on ADVrider as well. By the way, I'm leaning towards "C". http://d26ya5yqg8yyvs.cloudfront.net/1drink.gif |

hola brecchi
no parece tan dificil.es un caso de solo hacer la cuenta.cruzar la frontera no cuesta ni 40$ y liberia no es tan mala una ciudad o el arenal tampoco tan malo un destino por un par de dias. all the best geri |
Thanks Geri, I made into Costa Rica today, currently in Liberia :-)
