Guatemala Border from Mexico

Hi everyone,
We are heading towards Guatemala tomorrow but will probably arrive border 2 days time. We were taking this border, Cuidad Cuauhtemoc to Mesilla over Tapachula or Hildago. We have been told its very dangerous.
Anyone heard anything or advice going into Guatemala.
2 up on GS1150.

Hi Jules,
crossed the border a few days agoand had same worries as you do. We haven't had any problem... that's basicly all I can say...
Stayed thereafter for a few days and are now in El Salvador...

Cheers,
Marcus

Jules

I crossed at Chautemoc, Mesilla in March 09 and I found it very pleasant.
The mexican Aduana is a little distance from the actual border, can not remember but maybe 5 km.
When you get to Messilla Guate. it is a very busy street with lots of pedestian traffic, just push on through slowly, the actual border is on your right. They will fumigate your bike tires first and then you can do your paperwork, which is inexpensive and quick!
There are money changers on the road, just know the exchange rate and use one of them, they are easy to deal with.

!Speak as much Spanish as you can!

The road from Mesilla to Hue Huetenango is great with lots of high topes,Hue Hue has lots of Motrocycles in fact it is crazy busy with bikes!
I stayed just on the edge of town near the McDonalds for about 30 dollars.

Thanks guys, we'll keep heading to Mesilla for sure.
Do you know whether we can still take the Coastal road as far as Huixtla and then turn left and go north up to Mesilla. Our Garmin shows NO road but the map does. Would hate to get caught and have to go through Tapachula or turn round and go back round via Tuxtla. Just love those Topes !

:) Luckily my better half speaks fluent Spanish:clap:

Yes indeed you can take Mex 200 towards Tapachula but cut north on Mex 211 into the mountains. Beautiful route by the way, good hotels in Motozintla and Frontera Comalapa and Cd Cuauhtemoc. . This wil deliver you to Cd .Cuauhtemoc and the La Mesilla border crossing . Mexican aduana post is indeed 4km before the actual border.

I crossed at La Mesilla this morning, no problems, 25 minutes total
