Guatemala road blocks.

Hi there intrepid travellers.
Is there anyone in Guatemala at the moment who has any news/advice about the current road block situation there. Ideally we would like to skip through Guatemala in the next few days heading north. We have seen the Guatemalan government road info and other advice on the net but any real time inside info would be welcome.
Thanks.

roadblocks

Hi there,

be carefull, people at the roadblocks can be very agressive. I had problems at one of the roadblocks in the East of the country. Also some of the petrol stations were out of fuel and i had to buy on the black market (46 Qz instead of 36 Qz a gallon) on Sunday. As there was talk to block the bridge/border on Monday i rode an hour in the dark to cross into Belize at 6am before the roadblock was up. And i made it without issues.

Good luck.

Saludos mika :mchappy:

Thanks for that Mika
Yep, we heard about the gas situation and we'll try to skirt or negotiate the blocks using the, 'I am old and stupid routine'.

Webpage giving latest official status of blockades

This is a good source of info, if anyone else is trying to find out the latest situation on the blockades.

Source: Departamento de Asistencia TurĂstica / PROVIAL

This is being updated several times a day.

Also this web publication has been including a map showing the location of blocked or reopened sections. It's the Google map appearing first/highest on the page. Not sure how often this is updated but date and time are usually provided.

Thank you for this information. Currently in Baja but we will need this in a month or so. Going to keep an eye on this.

Thank you for the links. We are touring Guatemala over 2 weeks starting Feb 5. Is PROVIAL the best source for stuff like this? I was told to avoid Panajache altogether. We're doing a volcano camp at Atitlan, then taking a week to get to Tikal.
Thanks in advance for any help!
