Insurance 4 Mexico
We're about to cross from CA into MEX, and have been reading a lot of suff (including here on the HUBB) re MC insurance for MEX.
Question remains is whether it is better to buy on line from one of the many providers or at the border when crossing. Any idea/recommendations? :scooter: |
I bought my insurance in Deming, New Mexico. I bought my policy through Sanborn(s) over the phone- through an 800 #. I bought it with a credit card, they then faxed my hotel the documents, this was all I needed. Thanks to HU I didn't show up at the border without this required document. While I've been to Mexico more than once- I'm jealous of you two, enjoy Mexico, H.

I used this web site:
Baja Bound Mexican Auto Insurance - Travel Safe in Mexico! twice and never had a problem. |
Thanks guys!
I ended up taking the Bajabound one simply because it was cheaper (actually quite substantially). The on-line feature is really user friendly.

On my mexico trip, I forgot about insurance till I was at my Uncle's house in McAllen, TX. At 9:00 at night I searched around on the internet, but couldent complete the form b/c they didnt list my bike (xr650l) so I called them at almost 10:00 and at 11:00 he emailed me the insurance form, I printed it out and was good to go. Cost around $10 per day for my trip.
But I was never ever ever asked for the insurance info. Not by customs, not by the cop at the checkpoint after the 30km (or whatever it is) free zone, not by the mililtary when they searched me. So i am assuming no one will ask you for it unless you get in a wreck. But better safe than sorry I guess. |
