insurance for Mexico
What is the norm for Bike insurance in Mexico.Do you get it at the border or pre arrange it ?What is the approx. cost.
Thanks in advance ! Simon |
You don't say where you are coming from but if it's from the US then you can find it at the border. I entered at the San Ysidro border between San Diego and Tijuana and bought mine before I crossed the border - the last exit on the freeway south. There are a few places that sell the insurance and recall the cost worked out at a couple of dollars per day (sorry not to be more specific).
Hope this helps. Matt |
I use www.bajabound.com Expect to pay about $4.00 USD/day.The rates are set by The Mexican Federal Government and vary slightly with the exchange rate.I've never had to use the insurance, and for all I know it may very well be worthless. You can get the insurance over the internet before you leave. This will save time at the Border Crossing.

I'm not sure what the best place to get insurance is, but i do know that if you buy it at the boarder, expect to pay premium price!
Good luck! |
Hi, we bought it at the border, normally there are several shops, supermarkets etc they have a booth where they sell it. There are two kinds of insurance. One is per day, the other is per year. If u are staying longer than 30 days, the year insurance is def. cheaper. Another good option which was introduced last year is a drivers licence bound insurance. It is really cheap (like 120 Dollar for one year, about 50 % compared to the normal one for a year), but than nobody else can ride yur bike (which was ok for us)
If u check with AAA they can give u infos as well. But the price does not differ much. Have fun Martin and Katja |
Thanks for info,i will probably get it at US border then as i don't know what exact day i will be crossing into Mexico.
