Leaving Mexico with expired permit.
Well, here we go again. I will be leaving Mexico in one month to return to Canada, but my permit will be expired by two weeks. I can't extend the permit, Mexico only allows six months per year and they refused to extend it. I need to cancell this permit when i leave, just wondering what's the worst that can happen? I've left before on an expired permit with another bike and no one said anything when i cancelled it, was i lucky? Leaving without cancelling is not an option. Just wondering if anyone has had any problems and had to pay a fine.

I've canceled 2 or 3 expired permits without problems or fines.

Laredo has a well organized drive-thru type of service where you don't even have to get off your bike. A blow-n-go affair, very quick...
If asked any questions, I'd simply explain that I'd forgotten to cancel the permit on my last trip and just popped over the border to make things right. No Tourist Card is needed to 'pop over' and do this. |
Yah, that makes sense. Thanx for the peace of mind.

Houston
If you are going back in the vicinity of Houston, Texas, the Mexican Consulate is located downtown off I59 (interstate 59) north. I clear a bike with a two year expiration there in about 10 minutes. They did come out and check the VIN #. No fine. They were very helpful.
