Mexico Guide book & advice
Hi all,
going to spend to months in Mexico with my '99 BMW F650, starting from and returning to Cancun. For South America I used Footprint's South American Handbook which prooved to be great help above all on accomodation, road information and general sightseeing issues. However I missed fotos... Does anybody have recommendations wrt which guidebook proves best regarding accomodation info and sightseeing in Mexico? Is a Footprint guide available and useful? Any other suggestions? I'd also be grateful for any recommendations wrt must-visits like the Copper Canyon and regarding the most interesting landscapes, roads and cities. Thanks & kind regards Winfried |
Winfried:
Try getting the Guia Roji, But get the Atlas Turistico de Carreteras, version. You can get it in any Sanborns restaurant or Gigante stores, also in book stores. It has pictures and info of the main interesting spots in Mexico. You could also try all the Mayan Riviera close to Can cun, (Yucatan). Lonely Planet carries the best book written on Mexico. If you decide to go north and come to Guadalajara, please drop me an e-mail. Have fun! Humberto MoroCycler [This message has been edited by hmoro (edited 19 January 2006).] |
I used the Lonely Planet guide for Mexico last spring and it was very helpful for both accomodations and sightseeing.

I have been told that Footprint is more oriented to the traveller with their own vehicle. The local book stores don't stock them, so I can't thumb though to confirm that. Anyone care to comment? Particularly interested in Central and South America.

...Lonely planet, bar none. Make sure you get the latest edition, i think its 2004. I´ve been using only one map, from Rough Guides, and its been extremely good so far, especially in conjunction with Worldmap GPS. The rough Guides map is made of plastic, and has been very durrable over the last 6 weeks or so. Any paper map would of desinigrated by now. I purchased mine from a map store in Vancouver. In mexico you can purchase the Guia Roja full mapbook of Mex. and Guatamala for about 150 pesos, available at Sanborns.
