Answer. 1 . You can try the Cancun Airport Banjercito but I doubt that they issue TVIP . Nobody flies in with a car .
Go back to the Chactemal border crossing near Chetumal , also known as Subte Lopez .

A. 2 No , do NOT go back into Belize . Drive up to the Mexican terminal buildings of the Mexican customs and park the car , then go inside with the car ownership, registration, drivers license, passport and your FMM which you got when arriving at Cancun Airport .Have cash or credit cards ready . All should be the originals showing your name exactly the same .
YOU ARE ENTERING MEXICO. Don't volunteer any information about your stay in your home country or your not having an earlier TVIP.
You must put down $200 or $300 or $400 USD for the REFUNDABLE TVIP SECURITY DEPOSIT. The dollar amount depends on the age of the car.
The new TVIP will be made out to fit the same expiry date as that on your FMM which you got at Cancun Airport

A. 3. Do NOT bother trying to cancel the TVIP IN LA PAZ( Pichilingue really, the harbour) you are making life needlessly difficult for yourself . You will always need to stop at the northern Mexican border to cancel the FMM and the TVIP can then be cancelled. in that ONE STOP .
You may cancel both those documents AND get your TVIP security deposit REFUND on the one stop.
You are NOT restricted to doing that only at TIJUANA , you may go to any other border crossing : OTAY MESA( = east Tijuana) TECATE , East end Mexicali , San Luis Rio Colorado and any other border crossing out of Mexico during the hours when Banjercito staff work .

A. 4. NO , NO , NO ! You must not cross into the USA AND expect to be able to cancel any of your MEXICAN DOCUMENTS . The USA BORDER people will not touch any of your Mexican documents . They do not do that and will happily process you into the USA .

You MUST stop of your own volition at the related Mexican offices . Do NOT get into the long line of cars waiting to cross the border until you have cancelled your documents and gotten the TVIP SECURUTY DEPOSIT REFUND.
No MEXICAN official will demand that you stop to do this . It is your responsibility to stop and do this .

First drive up to the area , follow signs to " Cancelar documentos" Drive up to the small green and white Banjetcito kiosk where you must hand over your TVIP document with the TVIP STICKER which you strip of your windshield. The official Will come out , take a picture or two of the car VIN and Then hand you a strip of paper print-out of the cancellation . If you paid with credit card the REFUND will go back to your cc account in a day or so .
If you paid US$ cash you will take the print strip inside to BANJERCITO and they will give you the exact number of dollars as you put in.
Then you go to Migracion in the same building and cancel the FMM and get an EXIT ( SALIDA ) stamp put on your passport

Only then should yo consider getting into the line of cars which slowly creep into the USA .

If you do good up and wind up in the US without cancelling the Mexican papers you will have to cross the border again back into Mexico to cancel them some time before they expire . But that could screw up your US visa rules . Don't do that .

You are welcome . Please post a short report on how things went when you obtained your TVIP IN Quintana Roo . That will be useful for other travellers wanting to store a bike or car longer term in Mexico in a border " free zone "

And likewise please let us know how you manage with storing the car in Tijuana or any other northern border zone location , after of course you cancel your TVIP , get the Deposit refund , and cancel the FMM.

And a PS: remember that you are totally legal and free to roam around in any of the border zone cities and towns after you cancel all your Mexican tourist documents , so you have no reason to rush across the MexicO-US border after those cancellations , for up to 72 hours.

TVIP for Mexico as Canadian

Hi All
Can someone tell me what document I need as Canadian moto owner when they as for "title of vehicle"
we don't have it in Canada?
Do you need only the registration and Canadian Insurance, and proof of sale doc.?
thx.

Sjoerd Bakker 1 Mar 2019 06:27

Not title

As a rider from Canada entering Mexico
bring whatever document your particular province issues to you as your OWNERSHIP AND REGISTRATION of the bike or car, showing make , model, year and VIN, and YOUR NAME
and your DRIVERS LICENSE and your PASSPORT
These all should show YOUR NAME spelled the same way
You may pay in Cash or with a credit card , again in YOUR NAME.

If paying cash you may pay for the TVIP and the FMM with Pesos or US DOLLARS . The refundable TVIP SECURUTY DEPOSIT if paid in cash must be paid in US DOLLARS ONLY
That deposit is refunded when you cancel the TVIP before it expires

Do not get sucked into the claptrap about Title , that is a USA document , it does not apply to you.

Canmet , I should add that you have no reason to think about showing your Canadian insurance slip at the Mexican border ( unless of course it is as an inseparable portion of your registration as it is , I think, in British Columbia.)
Your Canadian liability insurance is of no use, worthless , in Mexico
.
Before travelling in Mexico you absolutely must buy a policy for Mexico liability insurance . That insurance is sold online ,at many State- side storefront insurance offices in border towns and it is sold right inside most Mexican Border Customs Terminals by the reps of the Mexican insurance companies.

To get a TVIP you need title or registration docs. I have entered Mexico many times and never showed the title, only the US registration.

And in fact, showing the title might be counter-productive if it is one (eg CA?) that shows the registration expiry date and it has passed

I just report is so easy to make TVIP in Quintana Roo but if you have come from Belize and store the car in Cancun with out TVIP you must go back to Mexican border and just tell him you will make TVIP and he allowed you to drive on another side to banjercito. There must you pay deposit for the car(depens year of your car) + tax+ entering tax all together 350 eur but in my case they will return 300 USD on my credit card when I check out on bajercito on the border.
The rest I report in august when I come to Tijuana.

Boris
