Nicaragua-Honduras, Guasaulles/Somotillo border question
Hi,
I'm currently in Leon & want to cross from Nicaragua into Honduras near Gausaulles/Somotillo. This has been recommended to me by 2 fellow riders about 1/2 year ago. Going into Honduras, is that border crossing any good? I couldn't find much information here on the HUBB, apart from 2004 – and that didn't sound that good. But maybe things have changed since then!? Just wanted to see if anyone else here had positive/negative experience, or if my friends 1/2 year ago were just lucky. Thanks Bjorn |
Bjorn, I just came through that border and it took four hours. My two Honduran entree experiences at two different crossing points were bad.
The one at Copan took six hours. I can't advise a different crossing since I don't have any experience with any others. Just see to it your papers are in order. Our helper helped but tried to tack on a bogus $10 fee he "said" he paid, but I never saw him do that. I hope you have a better cossing than I did two days ago. |
esteli/danli
hola bjorn
if you want an easy crossing go to esteli and from there to danli. if i remember correct it's called las manos.only that the fat custom official is sending you 4 times to the copy shop, which is'nt far, besides the whole area matagalpa/esteli is really nice. took me less than an hour to cross from copan to guatemala, easiest crossing in central america. all the best geri |
Guasaulles crossing
I live in Leon 6 months of the year and always cross in Guasaulles. The people are nice and it takes about an hour. Besides, there is a nice new road to travel on. I either ride or drive from USA to Leon, never a problem. Smile and be nice. Hope this helps
