over staying Visa and Permit in Mexico
I am contemplating overstaying my 180-day visa and import license for Mexico by less than a week. I need to meet a friend in Cancun; he is bringing some gear needed for the rest of my trip south. I’m planning on crossing the border at Belize, how likely is it that they’ll notice, and what problems will I run into if they do?
And if anyone wants to share a pallet shipping from Panama to South America (Quito preferably) sometime in the next few months please mail me. Kyle |
I don't have any personal experience overstaying in Mexico, but I do in other Latin American countries. I'd recommend not doing it because you may end up with an enormous number of problems. It's always easier to get an extension while you still have time left - once you've overstayed, then a tiresome extension process can become a nightmare. Also, consider whether your insurance policy will expire, too.

Again, no experience overstaying in Mexico - and haven't heard of anyone doing so - but one traveller overstayed in Guatemala - they confiscated his bike on the spot, and it cost many thousands to get it back - and many months.
As James notes, see about an extension - you can probably do it in Cancun or Merida. If not, run for the border, stay a day and come back. ------------------ Grant Johnson Seek, and ye shall find. ------------------------ One world, Two wheels. www.HorizonsUnlimited.com |
Thanks I've decided kiss the border Belize then head back into Mexico.
