Panama to Cartagena
I will be in Colon in the next week or so to jump the Ferry Xpress to Cartagena. I understand it will take a few days to get the paper work in order so I'll have to stay in town a while. Can anyone recommend a good place to stay where my bike will be safe ...... and economical as well. Any advice would be appreciated! Please reply here or directly to my email address at hankkrawczyk@hotmail.com
Thanks again!!! |
Boy , was that a dumb post I put up , you asked about lodgings in Colon while waiting for the boat and I go spouting about a hotel Panama City as if waiting for an airplane .
Please pardon my braifart, just not paying attention . To compensate I will give you my favourite hotel in Colon , the Hotel Carlton in downtown on Calle 10 at the corner with Avenida Melendez . In 2011 prices ranged upward from $39 single and $44 for two beds Unfortunately they do not have their own parking Garage but there is a paid and guarded garage very close by. And you can actually park the bike right at the lobby door where an armed guard is posted all night . I did park my bike there once without problems . On cannot ride into the lobby because they have " dam " in the doorway to keep floodwaters out during tropical cloudbursts . It is not the cheapest hotel but the other budget hotels I did see inColon actually had worse bike security. And Colon is not a town to take security issues lightly! Watch your back and stay off the streets at night . Even be very careful in daylight , rode around instead of walking around. There are of course other more pricy big chain hotels with parking garages , like the Best Western at south end of downtown and the Hotel Radisson on the newer east side in the cruise ship docks area. |
Great advice......
Keep shedding those pearls of wisdom brother.....when I go up in May I will stay there!

might want to look into this
Panamanian visa entry fee: The Panamanian Migration authorities have begun charging $100 per passenger unless the passenger can provide proof that they will leaving Panama within 72 hours of arrival. Whilst we have yet to receive a clear answer from the authorities on the basis for this charge, we recommend that you bring a printout of your onward journey from Panama or you will be personally liable to pay the $100 fee to the Panamanian Migration authorities. |
