passage from Panama to Colombia
Hi, I know this has been discussed before, but I am currently about 1 week from Panama city and have tried to contact various people to organise a boat to Cartagena without luck.
Has anyone got either direct numbers or e-mail addresses of anyone who may be able to help me? If not then some advise on the best place to try and catch a boat from. Would it be Colon or the town slightly further south. It is just me and my bike so hopefully I will have more flexibility regarding the boat size. many thanks Simon |

COLON IS SERIOUSLY DAnGEROUS
Hi, a quick word of warning. Colon is dangerous. Should you need to stay, try the Harbor Inn out in what was the Canal Zone close to the Melila. $15 - $18 a night, big rooms, bath, AC, totally safe. Yachts are preferable to small local vessles. Sure the local is cheaper, however most are smugglers. You pay for passage to Cartagena and are unloaded onto a launch in the middle of a night to God knows where. I did it. You may find something of interest on my blog at home

Try doing a forum search: "Panama to Columbia".
I could provide the link for you, but "teach a man to fish..." |

Heya Dude,
I am in Panama City at the moment, and looked into the options here. I am bringing my bike down to Girag tomorrow morining and they are flying it for me. Quoted me $551.25 all inclusive. Booked a seperate flight with Copa for me and that was $240 after tax. I was in Portobelo today and was taking to this guy that just came over on a yacht. Sorry cant remember his name, but was saying he was charged $550 for the three day trip by boat. Personally i think the flight is safer, faster and you dont get salt water on your machine. Number for Girag is Phone at Tocumen(Airport office): +507 238-4326 and In Bogota: 571-414-7010 Hope this helps. But there are yachts that go from Portobelo, but you have to ask, and its not guaranteed, and the town itself is tiny. |
Where are you flying to Kev? Assuming it´s still Colombia.
Another option for flying out of Panama is to use Copa Cargo. They seem to have a much better reputation that Girag, and their office in Quito was seriously helpful in setting me up for clearing Quito customs, which took five hours thanks to a contact they gave me in the customs office. That´s about two and a half days quicker than others have managed it, it seems. Al |
boat
hi everyone,
I have found a boat from pan to cart. It leaves on Wed. Bad point is that i have to give him $550 when i was hoping to pay less, as the budget is beyond being a bit tight these days! good point is that there is no hanging around trying to find a boat. If anyone is biking around colombia please let me know. Also I have never added my blog site to this forum incase anyone is interested. it is at: Get The Dirt / Simon Mendus-Edwards (Mendus) thanks for all the help everyone! Simon |
