Process for selling a bike in Mexico
Hello
This is the 1st time that I plan to sell my bike in Jalisco, Mexico (also bought & registered in Jalisco, Mexico). I am already getting offers above my asking price but from the locals only. Being a gringo, I am worried that I may be tricked or taken advantage of when handing over the bike. Could someone please advise me the process i.e., what do I need to do in order to transfer the registration to another person and what precautions do I take so that I don't get skimmed or a potential buyer taking off with my bike on the pretense of a test ride. Also, I am being offered cash so, is there a likelihood of a local passing on fake currency to me. Thanks |
No test rides. Meet in a public place.
If you have a Mexican Bank account, do an electronic funds transfer from his cel phone movil to your bank or go to the bank together. The teller will inspect the bills for false bills. Have a friend with you. There is a one page document to make the transfer out of your ownership responsibility for the moto. Best to make the transfer into sellers name at the recacaudora to make sure he finalizes the transfer and pays the transfer fees in his name. Hand over the factura after you have the money and he has completed the transfer in the recaudadora. I have a transfer letter here somewhere that I can whatsapp you if you like. |
This tour operator in PV is reputable. Perhaps he could be a potential buyer or he can assist you.
https://www.bike-mexico.com/ Jürgon Dano. Your price at 80,000 MXN is more than fair. |
Thank you Pancho for your valuable advice!

Did you sell the bike yet ? How did it go ?
You could give useful advice form personal experience to other tourists with bikes registered in Mexico wishing to sell there . :thumbup1: |
No yet though every other day I keep getting interested parties to look at it. Maybe one day I'll be able to sell it. Not in any hurry.
