Riding my Kawasaki Concours from Canada down to Central America
I will be going on a rather epic road trip leaving Alberta Canada in June, heading south through the United States, making my way into Mexico in late June or early July and traveling through Central America down to Panama in no particular order or time frame.
I would appreciate any help regarding What insurances I need to get before traveling or which ones I can pay for when I across different borders. I am aware I need to get Mexico Insurance before reaching the country. So outside of that any information again would be greatly appreciate it. Thank you in advance. :scooter: |
I can only speak about Guatemala, but no one I know here carries insurance and I’m rather sure it’s not a requirement to have it. I’ve never been asked to see proof of insurance at the border. It is sold if you want it, though, from places like Seguros El Roble.

when you enter nicaragua, you will be required to purchase mandatory 3rd party insurance for i think 30 days. it's dirt cheap. DO NOT SKIP IT. if you are stopped by the cops, which you will be, and don't have the card, they will fine you and impound your ride.

After Mexico it will be obvious at the border which countries require insurance and which ones don’t. They will make you buy it, it’s usually cheap and it’s probably worth what you pay for it :) Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |
Nicaragua, Costa Rica , Belize and Panama demand you have liability insurance and sell it at the border . The other countries don't make an issue of whether or not you have insurance but it is smart to do have it ... just in case .

I’m in Tegucigalpa Honduras if you want to meet up in your way down. No insurance needed here by the way. |
