The road to El Rama in the Autonomous Atlantic South Region is pretty much perfect and it is 300 km loooong. It has brand new pavement, very little traffic except for a couple trucks here and there and it is an amazing ride. you go up mountians, villages, lot's of curves and breath taking views. I was to busy looking around that i forgot to take pictures. Next time I'll go I'll do a better job. But here are a couple to give you an idea.

Slowly this will change. http://salcar.smugmug.com/photos/252035947-M.jpg the vegetation, climate and people reminded me of the Amazon in Brasil. here is a picture of people transfering milk from one side of the river to the other.... from a boat to a pick up truck... they move the milk with a normal bucket from the blue container to the gray containers that the guy is carrying. http://salcar.smugmug.com/photos/252036366-M.jpg on the way to El Rama you also pass over one of the tallest bridges in Nicaragua which 150 meters high. you can see all the kids with their blue and white school uniform. http://salcar.smugmug.com/photos/252038015-M.jpg and while the road to El Rama is in great condition you always have to keep an eye out for animals! http://salcar.smugmug.com/photos/252038235-M.jpg |

Salcar invited me to stay at his house on my trip south. Not only that, I got to join in on one of the dirt bike tours that he runs. Nicaragua has a lot interesting things to see and I would have missed many of them if not for Salcar. His house is beautiful to look at and very relaxing to hang out in after months on the road. He's doing some renovations now and I think it'll be spectacular when they're finished.
Thanks again Salcar for your hospitality. I hope we can meet again for a ride together, either on this continent or another. Andy |
I was really glad to meet Sal and his riding buddies. He suggested a great hotel- The Oasis, in Grenada. And then he bought dinner! Super guy.
Hey Sal- I'm going back to Panama in a few weeks. If I can get a photo of a Montero at work, I'll send it to you. How come Barb got mentioned, but I didn't? You even have photographic evidence of my presence at the ADVRIDER dinner! Nicaragua was great. I want to come back and do some exploring on a proper dirt bike. |
