I'm about to buy one of these, question is, is it worth paying another £40.00 for the 16gb version, or will 8gb suffice..? I'm coming from a netbook with over a 100gb so the tabs all seem on the small side, memory wise, although I never used much on the netbook.

I can't afford to spend money where it's not necessary, but nor do I want to be caught short of space.

It's main use will be for internet, emails, transferring photos & possibly gps although my girlfriend has been talking about watching films in the tent on rainy days..!

So what do you think..?

Oh.., and is there any significant benefit to Android 4.1 over 4.0..?

In my experience you will always need more memory/storage than you think, so if you can afford it go for the bigger one.

Yes it does. You can add up to 32gb, but I'm not sure if the card works like hard drive storage on the netbook and the 8/16 gb internal is like RAM..? ie more is better in order to keep the speed up..?

No the RAM is separate - I think it has 1GB - so the internal storage figures quoted will be for the flashdrive on which you store files. Can you really get an 8GB model? If so it must be old as I assumed the latest ones started at 16gb minimum

If it has SD card expansion then it's not so important for you to get the bigger internal memory as you can always increase your storage with more cards if the internal memory and added cards get full.

It's still better to have as much internal storage as you can afford so you don't have to carry so many SD cards around if you're going on a long trip. You can still use SD cards as backup but at least losing them (and they are tiny) wont mean losing your files completely

It depends on what you're planning to do with it, really.

The way Android works is that by default it stores all its apps in the internal memory. That said if you're not planning to install every app available or want to install a GPS application with offline maps the 8GB version will suffice. Since Android 4 you can move apps to an external memory card, but that doesn't work with every app. Everything else, like photos, videos, etc. can be stored on an external card anyway.

In short: the internal memory is used for applications and their respective data. Some can be moved to an external memory card but not all of it. An additional SD card will hold your music, your photos, your videos and all other media you want to throw at it.

And in regards to Android 4.1 vs. 4.0: as far as I remember 4.1 is significantly faster than 4.0. If there's an update available for that tablet it's worth installing. Fiddling around with custom ROMs can be dangerous since it has the potential to brick your tablet.
