Leaving Bahraini and travelling

I’m leaving Bahrain in June and trying to decide whether to ship my bike to Germany. I’d like to ride in Europe and then fly the bike to Canada and ride south. To leave Bahrain I have to export the bike (get temporary export plates). Can I get temporary registration in Germany easily? I’m British, but resident in Spain. I’ve heard that it’s very difficult to permanently import into UK or Spain. So I’m wondering if it’s better to sell the bike in Bahrain and not bother. Any advice is much appreciated.

Hi Nick and welcome to the forum,
I would be wary of shipping to Germany, a few people have been required to have a carnet de passage or leave a large bond by Hamburg customs something that I have not seen required at any other port in Europe where you can temporarily import a non-EU vehicle for either 90 or 180 days, I am not sure which.
You don't say anything about your bike but it might be possible to get single vehicle approval in the UK and if you can prove six months or more of ownership it should be VAT free as a personal import, more information here.

If you keep the Bahrain registration temporary EU/UK insurance is available from member Dooby
