Skip,

do the internet cafe machines have skype installed? If not, that's the first step. You need the application in order to sign up/register.

Probably the easiest way is to get a friend/relative to make a new account for you, using their installed app and the mail/tell you the userid and password.

Cheers,
John

Thanks John
Took your advice and got a friend to set it up it seem's some internet cafe's have a problem they don;t want people using skype if they have pay phone in the cafe. But it was still a real pain just trying to work it out i'm sure there must be an easy way. Cheers thanks again skip

If you have a PDA/Blackberry/IpodTouch you can run a thing called IM+ for Skype.

See here
Software for PDA and mobiles: MSN/Live Messenger, Yahoo!, AIM/iChat, ICQ, MySpace, Jabber, Skype and MySpaceIM.

Then all you need is a wifi hotspot that you can usually find at or near any large hotel.

Hi Skip,

depends on which laptop but most will have wifi and if not its just a usb plugin dongle that you need.
If its for travelling, something like the Asus EEE PC's 901 seem to me to be the biz.
The ones with solid state memory - no hard drive. I think you can get the 901 with 20 gig of storage. There are a lot of other firms making them as well now... search for Netbooks.

Asus were the first and I think still the best. Other company are adding whistles and bells... just depends if that's what you need.
