OffMaps allows you to download maps from OpenStreetMap for offline use.
MotionX GPS is a full-fledged GPS app that can also import waypoints. I think it can also use maps from OpenStreetMap offline. Note that you need to download maps in advance with a wi-fi connection. They can be very large files. |
The Lonely Planet apps are also pretty good - full guides on your iPhone in an easy way to search and read - also the maps (with GPS location) work completely offline. They also include phrasebooks that read out the phrases over the speaker - so you can use it to learn how to say it or just press it in the hotel reception ;-)
Lonely Planet - Mobile disclaimer: I worked for Lonely Planet and was involved in the creation of these apps so I'm a little biased. |

World Nomads language apps, brilliant, spoken and written phrases in your language and 'theirs', saying 'hello' 'please' 'thank you' in the local language always helps!

Here is one more app I found very useful:
Road trip - a neat app for keeping track of vehicle fuel consumption, maintenance, tire log plus the ability for trip specific events, and multiple currencies. http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-4AJcuPQ9tn...s320/road1.jpg I added a few more here: iPhone Apps for overlanding |
MotionX GPS is a very good GPS app, with open maps, and you can download a map radius rather than use data.
I also use roadtrip for fuel consumption, although going to try our Fuely soon as that seems popular, and on roadtrip, If I forget to add a fill-up it tends to up my MPG. itorch4, for when I don't have my torch to hand BBR best biking roads Kindle app- books on the go Tripadvisor- check out reviews of hotels, hostels, resturants Tunein radio- world radio |
Great list.
For US travel I'd add All stays camp and rv. for finding campgrounds it lists all national park areas as well Navigon. Full featured GPS from garmin |
