Anyone for toast?
Ok, so I know it might be a bit of a luxury, but everyone likes a bit of toast every now and again, so I thought I'd say a quick word about the folding Primus Camping Toaster.
http://media.rei.com/media/kk/045f2f...b133f32dc0.jpg I bought one 21 years ago in Australia and it's still going strong, So how's it work? Simple, you just unfold it from it's flat state, pop it over a flame and the wire guaze spreads the heat fairly evenly over the bread which is sat on top. Obviously if you're using a petrol or meths stove then it's not going to taste nice, but camping gaz or wood or coals all work fine. Sure a toaster's not the most needed bit of camping equipment, but if you like a taste of home, then this and a small pot of Marmite certainly cheer you up on a wet day under canvas (assuming you can get bread of course). |
oh that I do like..... now I wonder how well that'll work with my new Optimus Nova + ?

As long as it burns gas not petrol so it doesn't taint the toast yes. And the odd thing is, I bought mine in Melbourne.
So you can have you Vegemite, mate. |
I think Matt is a Marmite man, unless he's gone native!
I agree being able to have toast on the road would be lovely. I have one of these to do a toasted sarnie. Works well on my petrol stove. Diablo Sandwich Toaster - I Want One Of Those |
Oh a jaffle iron, I've been looking for one of these for ages, thanks for posting it... ahh it takes me back to a lost weekend in Tasmania.

Oh AX!
Doesn't the egg leak through all those holes? And how do you know if the toast is done... since it doesn't have a pop-out mechanism - and it clearly doesn't go 'ping!' either. |
looks good but I just toast by putting the bread in the fry pan/pot on the base then flipping over a couple of times works a treat or add butter for a yummy fried bread.:scooter:

Strap your bread to the radiator. Not only do you have a snack ready whenever you stop, but the added benefit of extra protein from flies  Like a nice crunchy seeded loaf.

There is an optional pinging mechanism, it's called "bloke" and is cheap to get hold of, although the running costs are a bit high. |
just toast sliced bread in the bottom of a dry frying pan, works fine.
