Anyone own/seen the Teknic Stinger Jacket?
Hi everyone, I've been looking around for a jacket for a trip through Central and South America. I came across this jacket: Teknic Stinger Jacket - KneeDraggers.com
but haven't found any info on it other than that provided by Technic. Has anyone seen or does anyone own this jacket? The price is perfect for me. I'm not concerned about waterproofness: I have an overjacket for that. |
That said, I believe Teknic may have gone downhill

Stinger Jacket
I have a Stinger and like it very much. However, there a couple of drawbacks to it. It is very heavy. It weighs more than my Aerostich Roadcrafter suit. The elastic cuffs are very tight and it makes the jacket tough to get your arms out of. The inner mesh jacket doesn't look very good when you take off the waterproof outer liner and some of the armor pads stay in the outer liner. You also lose the snap straps that keep the armor in place if you take off the outer liner. It is a very warm jacket and has little ventilation if riding with it with the outer liner on. Still, the jacket looks very good and is well made for the price. I would recommend it for cooler riding. Good luck.

I have a Stinger jacket. It is a more `fitted` jacket than most so not for those with a big belly!
I agree on the cuffs being a bit small to get over gloves and I would also add that the neck velcro will not do up if you have a couple of layers around your neck. The biggest drawback with it is the lack of breathability. On warm days it is not possible to stay cool. I think the waterproof layer is probably not an expensive goretex type, but then it is a relatively cheap jacket. Its plus points are that it is a very smart looking jacket and seems to be well put together. I have not used it in prolonged rain, but in the odd heavy shower it has stayed dry. The double main zip system is a clever design and looks like it would hold up in bad weather but I am not so sure about the zip up vents in the arms. For the money it is decent value. I actually picked mine up stupidly cheap at £40 BNWT on ebay To be honest I tend to use my ancient Shoei jacket in preference which is just brilliant. |
