Can I Change Tire Sizes?
Wife & I live in Argentina, ride Transalps and are in need of tires. As usual, 120/90-17 rear dual-sport tires are not available before we head out on our next trip.
Is it safe to install a different size rear tire? It seems the 130/80-17 tires are much more common around here. What say you? Thanks, Steep |
change tire size
If it fits without rubbing on the swingarm, chain or any other parts inside the fender there will be no danger in changing tire size if you cannot get the original spec. The size you are contemplating is not that far off.

As previous poster has said, as long as there is clearance for the swinging arm it will be ok:thumbup1: The difference is only 1cm on the width (5mm each side of tyre) and on the sidewall. It will also make it 'very' slightly lower, but you probably won't notice:clap: Trophymick |
you could "probably" even go for a 140 on a transalp....

you could go for 150..
i got it on my dominator, so i have the same swingarm.. i prefer " wider" tyres beceause you can turn flatter before reaching the end of the tread and making a lowsider :oops2: |
