dvd writer for EEE PC
 

Hi eee pc gurus, I am after a dvd writer for EEE PC 901. Does anyone have any suggestions. I doubt it matters but i will be running windows...

I know this isn't what you asked, but just in case....

If you have another PC with a DVD drive you can just share the drive and map it as a network drive on your eee.

No use if you're away from the PC, obviously.

Otherwise, look on Amazon for USB dvd writer. There's one called CnM ultra slim that seemed to be the best option when I was looking, but i didn't buy in the end so can't vouch for it. There are plenty of others.

The cheapest I found was a LiteOn model on Dabs for under £35, but it's a bit chunky.

If you want portability double check that it's USB powered.

Not a guru:( - but I'm personally doubting the 'dubious' benefits and independence of the sheer amount of electronic paraphernalia that I think I need on the road. If I depend on all the links working and one fails, I could be royally screwed - without a 'sonic screwdriver'.

I'm considering extra flashcards and batteries to edit in camera - and a solar charger to back up a car/bike charger. If something fails, I've spread the risk and can keep going. Could take a simple picture editor on a stick and a card reader, should I find a suitable cyber-cafe, but I'd really be independent, even from them - and at limited cost and weight.

Samsung SE-S084B is pretty good. Quite light as well at 400 grams.

i have a LG GP08. slim, and light weight. but it needs two usb-ports, so i have a usb hub.
but i try to take sd cards with me, they are rougher than a dvd writer.

The EEE doesn't have enouigh juice to run a CD/DVD burner off the USB port alone, I tried a few weeks ago , you are best off bringing extra SD cards and using the SD card slot instead.

I wouldnt bother with a cd/dvd burner as is large and being mechanical it will be susceptible to breakdown.

I think your best option would be to get a couple of USB thumb drives which are small and can have very large capacities, as much as 64gb.

The corsair survivor series are supposed to be virtually indestructable.
