first time traveller advice wanted
hey folk's,got some real greenhorn questions regarding a year long trip i'm taking soon.Heading Thailand,New Zealand and Oz,and although not a bike specific trip hope to pick something up in New Z,depending on the better half.Anyhow need to get a backpack/rucksack and very drawn to kriega's 35 litre pack as would be usefull evermore(hopefully!).Is 35 litres enough to live outta combined with decent waistpack?Would be a travel light type and don't plan spending any huge time away from civilisation. Is kriega gear good and as comfy on bike as claimed?Any words of wisdom and experience much appreciatted.

35 litres seems a little small to me, it can be done and I have done short bicycle trips like that but its not enough space to be comfortable I wouldnt think. Especially if you are camping and cooking own food.

The size you have to decide for yourself, depends heavily on how you are going to travel anyway. Camping and cooking for example adds a HUGE bulge to your luggage.
In my experience the Kriega gear is top notch. I have the R35, Waistpack and parts of the US system (for my road bike) and they all have been performing flawlessly. I took two US-20 Bags on top of my alloy panniers for over 7.000 kms and they managed pouring rain, extreme dust, quite a bit of dirt, a couple of minor spills and quite a bit of wear and tear without any problems. I would definably recommend them! |
Thanks guys, yeah have their us-10 pack and very impressed with it.And it attaches to the r35 i think so that'd bump me up to 45.Is it comfy and practical to wear their waistpack and r35 together or cumbersome?Won't be doing a lot of camping/cooking i realise that'd be a completely different undertaking, but am a bit concerned 45/50 litres mightn't just suffice.
