Half price Helinox Chairs ??

These look VERY similar to to helinox.

My guess is that they come from the same factory but without the Touratech effect.

Ie.... Put a stamp on it and charge twice the price doh

Worth a punt ??

I have a Helinox and love it. This looks the same...definitely worth a punt at that price!

similar perhaps but not congruent Ted
These do not appear to have DAC poles... buyers beware

*Touring Ted* 11 Oct 2013 19:01

DAC poles ???

£80 for a chair made of old tent poles and some canvas is OUTRAGEOUS.

Warin 11 Oct 2013 23:24

Item location : Hong Kong

Shipping: Does NOT post to Australia.... :oops2:

Ted - there are tent poles and there are tent poles... you'd no want carbon fiber one here... certainly not cheap ones.

*Touring Ted* 12 Oct 2013 07:47

I'm not suggesting this IS a helinox. Or that it is as good.

However, without someone trying and comparing, we will never know.

There is no way a genuine helinox needs to cost anywhere near what they do... They probably cost about £3 each to make in a factory in China.

Ted well spotted, agree with the Touratech brand selling everything for a ridicolously inflated price, I highlighted a few items a while ago that where half the price elsewhere.

These seats look good but I would still want to pay far less £3 would be far more pleasing and at that price you can always give the thing away as a gift :scooter: I like my thermarest chair kit (present that I couldnt justify the cost of myself) but it still means being on the ground which is not ideal with bugs about and its a bit of a pain fitting the struts each time you use it

fraser2312 12 Oct 2013 14:54

Ok, I've bitten the bullet and ordered one.

It will be interesting to see if I get hit with any import taxes etc. doh

Good. Interested to hear of the result. Not about the taxes, about the chair.

Nice one Fraser...

Don't forget to give us a good review... :thumbup1:

Get something like this and lean against the seat of your bike or something like that:

Hi Gear Ohio Camping Stool | GO Outdoors

Even £36 is an extortionaite amount of money on such a simple piece of kit. The above are comfy enough, they pack small, they're light and are pretty strong.

fraser2312 2 Nov 2013 17:00

Sorry for the delay as I've been a bit busy through work unfortunately. The chair arrived Last Tuesday (22nd Oct) so ten days from purchase to my doorstep, it was free delivery from HK also. Let me also say I don't have the 'genuine' chair to compare with, just images and videos available on-line.

The chair arrived well packaged and came in this case.

The frame assembles in seconds.

Then stretch the the material over the frame to complete the seat. You can see the frame is a different shade of blue from the one on the material.

The plastic parts where the frame locks into seem well made.

I've got to say I'm pretty please with the chair so far but only time will tell how it will hold up. I sat on it for a few hours yesterday watching the F1 practice (hardcore, I know) giving it a shake and trying to put it under as much stress as my 12st frame could give it but it didn't crack or snap nor did I feel the need to gently lower myself into it.

So is it just an unbranded Helinox? From looking at the pictures on-line I would say not completely, the carry bag and the seat material whilst unbranded look remarkably similar, however its very clear that the frame isn't 'The real McCoy' but still seems up to the job so far.

Don't tell Ted because so far it appears we may be the two tightest dudes on here, but we popped for a couple of "The Real McCoys" at the HU meet and I can't see a nickel's difference in the connectors from here.

Different storage bag and different liddle rubber feets, The letters "DAC" appear faintly in the plastic castings of the Real McCoys, if you're looking for clues that would indicate like items.

£50 saved here is another £50 to spend having a great time somewhere else :thumbup1:

pbekkerh 4 Nov 2013 00:18

Fraser,

I'd be interested to know if you've managed to put this properly to the test yet.

Did you get collered for any import duty ??

fraser2312 9 Apr 2014 07:15

I haven't put it through its paces yet however I am away with the bike at the end of the month and will report back. I never got hit with any import duty.

Big Yellow Tractor 9 Apr 2014 07:55

Cheers for that.

Toyark 11 Apr 2014 09:26

Remember, once you've set it up, not to 'drop' into it! - it has a max weight limit and that does not include it accelerated by gravity!!

*Touring Ted* 11 Apr 2014 22:13

I'm still in the 'sit where I land' category... I sit on carrier bags and logs usually.

The 'Swinging Arm'.... Great place eh.

I'll always find money for what's important. Beer and Petol bier

Capri142 21 Apr 2014 19:32

with those flimsy legs, I bet the whole thing would collapse the first time I set my 200lbs down on it.

pbekkerh 21 Apr 2014 19:59

The original will take 200lbs. no problem.

I can confirm that; my mate has one and he's a chunky b'stard. I have seen him flop drunkardly into it without any damage.

I took a punt and ordered the copy/rip-off/clone. I'll give some feedback when or if it arrives.

alpster87 21 Apr 2014 22:51

One night of camping and not paying for motel pays for the real deal ,Ill stick with the genuine piece thnx .. doh

fraser2312 24 Apr 2014 16:14

Got back yesterday from a few days on the West Coast of Scotland.

The chair was perfect, it didn't let me down and I found it really comfortable. You've got to be carefully where you choose to sit otherwise the legs will sink into the ground, like the original. I know this is a bit brief but it's a seat and it done it's job very well.

I'll try and keep this updated. So far so good. :thumbup1:

simon gregory 26 Nov 2014 11:00

chair feedback ?

hiya guys ....well are the chairs still alive ? they do look very flimsy side to side for my lardy ass ? lol :scooter:

pbekkerh 26 Nov 2014 11:16

Mine has no problems.

Big Yellow Tractor 27 Nov 2014 07:47

Mine seems fine. Compared side by side, I can't find much difference between the two. Both do suffer from the same problem though; small feet which easily sink into soft ground.

pbekkerh 29 Dec 2014 01:11

Here is another one, even a bit cheaper at 42$

A bet you'd lose, it takes my 220lbs easily and has done every camping trip this year. The legs may look flimsy but they are thick walled decent duralumin not tent poles. Apart from not having helinox stitched into the seat there really isn't any difference.
The feet do sink into the ground though, solved by making a couple of cross pieces in slightly larger tubes that the feet sit in, or I've seen one with hiking stick feet put on which seemed to work ok

Still no problems but I did go back to the original rubberends and tennisballs for soft ground, the walking stick ends got damaged.

robtho 12 Oct 2015 19:18

Failed

I have one and have had to repair it a couple of times. The pockets on the corners where the support poles go in fail and the poles push through. Happened to mine and to one other that I know of.

Original or copy?

Cwac 7 Dec 2015 15:17

£18 shipped is where this kind of thing starts to make sense to me - http://ebay.eu/1NR5NUr

Dutchgit 9 Jan 2016 14:33

Having sat on an original I have to say it was very comfy. At about 1/5th of the price of an original I know what our chairs will be !
The poles coming through the fabric is easily overcome if you sew in some pieces of an old HD innertube in the receiving pockets.
