Helmets for the fatter head - what would you recommend?
Went helmet shopping on Saturday and hit a small problem, or rather an XXL one, my head. I couldn't get it in any of the helmets in the shop, although admittedly they seems to lack anything in XXL.
So I'm wondering which XXL helmets people would recommend. The criteria are:
That said, if I had a choice of two and both were equally good I'd go for the off-road over the on road, just because I think it suits the whole buggy thing better (Still wondering about a Giro downhill mountainbike helmet). Oh yes did I mention this was for use in an off-road buggy? |
Any by BMW as BMW one's are made for people with big fat heads and loads of money.

Ahh, if only there was a direct link between the two, I'd have no worries.

I can't recommend the Schuberth S1 enough - full review over at Schuberth S1 Helmet - Review ยป The London Biker - if you're interested.
I have a rather large head too....! m |

Actually wrote that review before I went down to Morocco - I think it was just the initial shock of going from a helmet that didn't do warm at all and a helmet that was comfy and nice and warm.
It was fine in the heat in Central Spain and the heat in Morocco. m |
Odd that. I went helmet shopping yesterday, finally found a place with a huge stock all different types including the Maruchin I was interested in. The XL on that just about fitted, but they didn't have an XXL to see if it was more comfy (not imported apparently). They did however have the full Schuberth range up to XXL, and I couldn't even get that over my temples, it just danced on the top of my head like some bizarre hat.

Schuberth
Lat time I spoke to Schuberth in Germany, they would make a special fitting for people. You could give then a call....
Frau Marx 0049 531 38005134 (She speaks English) Cromwell in the UK also used to offer this service. Dunno if they still do though. John |

A bit like cars designed for people with short legs and long arms, all helmet manufacturers seem to have a standard template and if your head doesn't fit that shape, tough.
As someone else with an odd-shaped noggin, I always found Arai's too tight no matter what size. For a long time, the only helmets I could comfortably fit in were AGVs. Even my current Harley helmet is just a re-badged AGV. |
