Has anyone any experience with Hepco & Becker Gobi ?

I have them fitted on my KTM, they came free with the bike. Have used them for trips to both Europe & Morocco both on & off road & found them to be very good & 100% waterproof.

You can use them for seats when camping & can carry water in the double skin if you want. The only thing you have to be aware of is the width of them when filtering. I have had a couple of close shaves but as they are plastic you don't do any damage to other vehicles.

I have both the Gobi and the Junior set. The Junior set has nearly the same volume, has less weight and is not too wide. Better the Junior set!

I agree with Mart, I have used the junior panniers for the last 4 years and they have been totally waterproof and also do a good job of denting citroen bonnets. My friend has the Gobi panniers and the only advantage over the juniors is that the Gobi are top loading.

Gobi Top Box

I have the Gobi Top-Box and I've been using it everyday for the past year. The quality is top notch, tough as nails and is 100% waterproof no matter what the weather. I managed to break one of the lid clasps but spare parts are readily available, reasonably priced and easy to fit.

We had them on a KTM 990. They look cool but I don't know anyone who actually uses the water storage function. So you loose quite a bit of space.

My cousin had an off where he dropped the bike on the side at about 60 km/h. Broke off the mount/lock on the right side Gobi, so he fixed it to the bike with a rachet strap.

Later in the trip he had a more serious off (yes he rides too fast) where the bike flipped around it's axis twice. Topcase and both side panniers were shattered (lids broken off, mounts broken off, pieces missing). No way to reasonably fix them even with duct tape and rachet straps.

If you are planning on mostly road riding where you won't fall I guess they could be ok. For off roading where crashing will happen I would recommend something different, if not soft luggage.

We have the Gobi top boxes.
After 1 yar around south america, where my bike was stolen and trashed (and found) and a big crash (and many small crashes)... my top box is still intact, waterproof... indestructible.

Good to hear that. However you have to keep in mind that a top box sees a fraction of the abuse that side panniers do.

got Gobi top box and panniers and not crashed with 'em on [and don't intend to] so can't comment on their indestructibility. But they've been 100% waterproof and good for stools [sitting on that is] - which considering I'm not light weight is good going. I've had no probs filtering with them in tight spaces. Just depends what you're used to I guess. I'd recommend them.

Lukas true, but no panniers are built to stand crashes. Just ask TedMagnum.
When we first met him in Buenos Aires he had Metal mules and they looked really tough, but few months and few crashes later, they were completely trashed. He had to leave them in BA.

To be honest, I would not take alu boxes in my next big trip, only soft lugagge. If I crash, they can easily be repaired in shoe repair shops, they all have sewing machines. It is lighter as well. I found my alu boxes were t oo heavy, and then it is too tempting to cram more than needed. wehn I lost my panniers we got rid of lots of stuff and I was much better in trails for that. The bike was more manageable...
