knee braces

Anyone rides with knee braces ?

Which are the most quality/cost worthy?
l have only heard of 4 makes:
-CTl
-Donjoy
-Evs
-Asterisk

As l've just had crash resulting in a serious knee damage, l now know how they can brake from the inside !
And its not a fun experience, even in Europe !

Last question would be: will the social security insurance agree to pay these expensive knee braces..?

I only ride off-road with my braces, don't bother on-road. (Also used for walking, skiing etc) I have two (different types) GII braces.

Good, not cheap.

NOT covered by medical here in Canada, dunno about France!

Best bet is to get a really good sports medicine doctor/specialist and work with him to get the best brace for your problem. I've been using the same doc for almost 30 years, Canada's Olympic Team head doc, Jack Taunton, based at UBC in Vancouver - excellent if anyone is in this area.

The right doc is super important. After my knee was operated on by the local football team doc, he said: "You'll never do anything more difficult than walk on pavement again." I didn't think much of that so looked around and eventually found Taunton. He took me from there to teaching skiing and running 5 miles a day, so imho, the doc is everything. Plus a lot of work of course! http://www.horizonsunlimited.com/ubb/smile.gif But I still have to work out regularly to keep my legs in shape.

Best of luck!

Hello Grant,

You sure are right about the doctors, there are many bad ones and a few good ones, since August l've been on 3 different hospitals and l've been told similar things as the "pavement" story, its strange how some try to demoralise you, when stuck on a hospital bed !
Anyhow, now l'm out and working my leg, to soon ride again, but less dangerously!

What sort if injury did you knee sustain and how does the brace feel in use? What sort do the NHS provide? Do you know the cost if purchased privately?

Cheers
