Kriega OS-32 panniers
Just back from Morocco using prototype Kriega OS-32 panniers (supplied free) which are now on their website and out in a couple of weeks.
I prefer soft luggage – my previous short trips have used: • Any old duffle and drybags lashed to a rack (CB500X RR) • Adv Spec Magadan (Xcountry; GS500R) • Enduristan Monsoon (F650GS) • Touratech Zegaflex (XT660Z) plus the usual range of army surplus bags and whatever worked over the years. I never really went for Kriega's former Overlander system from about 5 years ago. The new Overlander S is a much better solution, because the plate stays bolted to the rack and instead, the bag mounts/demounts as effortlessly as you could expect, but still lashes to the plate simply and securely enabling riding as rough as most could manage while carrying a travelling load. You can also use them as a throwover and save 2.4kg and £100 on the plates/platforms, but you do need a rack or frame of some sort (or a twinshock) to stop them swinging about. They'll cost a lot, fully spec'd, but then I'd say on a genuine travel bike the load carrying set-up is the most vital and regularly used accessory. Long version on my website. Good looking bags! Using the Magadans currently - if they ever fail would be worth a look - nice review on your site - thanks...

Those Kriega 02-32's look good on the WR250. :thumbup1:
Expensive? So, how much are they going for? Do you happen to know where the Kriega bags are made? I assume they are 32 liters each, yes? Have you weighed bags themselves (empty), the racks/hardware and the plates? Why would you take your bags off your bike when traveling? Many bags now come with inner bags. Bags stay on, grab inner bag and go. Taking bags on and off daily will almost always result in a mistake (eventually) by the rider. Wondering if the Kriega bags have any inner storage pockets or pouches? Or outer ones? They look like they'll last a LONG time. How are they holding up after your trip? |
Double the price of Magadans once you add it all up.
Made in SE Asia, afaik. At least 32L - see this. Plus my strap-on pockets another 6L per side. 76L was plenty for me. All the weights are on my website review. Quote:
If I was wild camping by the bike, I'd probably leave them on. I know what you mean by 'almost always result in a mistake (eventually)' - that was why I left my Mags lashed to a rack and pulled the inner bag out. But the only way you could cock up the OS-32s is by simply forgetting to put them on. Once you do step 1: pull the anchor buckles up through the plate slots, I can't see them coming off even if you then forget to do up the straps. And even then (now I think about it) the lower inner straps which could potentially get caught in a wheel/chain if left loose, have the harmless loop, not the metal hook, so much less likely to catch. They've thought it through really well, IMO. No fixed inner storage but lots of outer add-on options. I think Revzilla added it up to 140L potential, but gif below (~118L?) is surely more than enough capacity. https://adventuremotorcyclinghandboo...overlander.gif No wear after my trip, but it was only a month. Chucked in the bath and ready for more on my next project bike. |
Very nice system. I think the correct link for Kriega bags on your site is this one:
https://adventure-motorcycling.com/2...nder-s-system/ Simple answers to my questions would be: Weight all up (racks, plates, bags) 13 kg. (28.6 lbs.) Cost : 710 UKP or $1,065 USD. Made in? Asia? I think you mean China. For my "budget" agenda, I'll take these Nelson-Rigg bags every time. What's wrong with them? Also made in China. https://photos.smugmug.com/Motorcycl...ags_detail.jpg https://www.revzilla.com/motorcycle/...dry-saddlebags |
Hi Chris,
Just found this post and relevant it is. I've just bought a set of these for my little Honda and am contemplating a custom pannier rack arrangement to mount them too. I see by your pic above the need for that top slot for the buckle to sit against. Do you think the whole plate is a necessity for mounting or just a case of top and bottom slots accurately replicated on a custom rack plate. Could do with some dimensions shown on a 'Brass Rubbing' style drawing if your feeling generous with time and effort...!!! :helpsmilie: |
Yes I suppose you could make a custom rack with the slots as on the plate, though IMOI the plate does help support the bag securely which is handy off road.
Sorry, my OS32s are long gone. |
Hi MEZ
Found these more detailed and close up images on Taobao of the back plate if it helps. https://s19.postimg.cc/j5bh81icj/plate.png https://s19.postimg.cc/gnzq0sdvn/plate1.png https://s19.postimg.cc/yqsss020j/plate2.png |
Thank you gents, think i can get the dimensions from the panniers themselves after seeing these images and the confirmation about the buckles being the key to mounting them. They seem well up to the job although the price left a hefty exit wound in the wallet i'm looking forward to having 'gone soft' after many years of being 'hard'...!!!!

You are welcome MEZ
Here are the Taobao links from China. https://s.taobao.com/search?q=kriega...180416&ie=utf8 https://item.taobao.com/item.htm?spm...cket=20#detail I think the 2 base plates here in China are about $200 for the pair but cant work out if you get the frame as well at that price. |

Vietnam or China there excellent quality, just need to get some travel dust on them now...!!!

I do like some of these soft-bag-on-platform designs, but besides the price these bags have a similar annoynce as the Mosko Backcountry panniers. They hold the bags a lot higher on the bike than necessary. The pic below illustrates it nicely.

On top of that the bag sits even higher on the mounting plate. Move the hole for the anchor buckle below the upper tube and run the upper straps over the rack tube. That will lower the bags and the CoG on the bike by a lot. Additionally the straps over the tube will serve as an additional way to keep the bag and the plate well attached to the rack. |
Great Bags
Hi duibhceK, the problem you may find is that the mounting plate will then protrude quite far below the luggage rack and will be very painful if you catch it on the back of your legs. I have use these bags a lot on 3 of my bikes and on the 990 adventure I caught my legs a couple of times in soft sand.
The versatility of these bags is great and I sold my Magadans in favour of them. I like the fact that if on a ferry or have secure parking and in a hotel I just take 1 bag of with my clothes etc and leave the other bag on with camping gear. I use the security straps part for security and part for peace of mind the bags are supported onto the rails. You can also drill more holes in the mounting plate, I note the latest plates have many more mounting holes than my first edition. I did feel a little miffed when I asked for a couple of replacement screws as swapping them from bike to bike started to wear the HEX. I was quoted 1GBP each so went on eBay and picked up 10 for 2GBP. |
