MEFO Super Explorer - NFS 'Not for Highway Use'
I'm trying to track down a Mefo Super Explorer 150/70-18 for my KTM 990.
Gabe at Zen Overland no longer stocks them so I've been looking elsewhere. 'Pneus-Online' stock them but they're listed as NFS - 'Not for Highway Use' https://www.tyres-pneus-online.co.uk...ivery---return Has anyone else encountered this? Anyone seen a Super Explorer marked 'NFS' ??? |
Hmmmmm.
Well, it's got an R speed rating. 106mph If it's stampted NHS. 'Not for highway service' ,then maybe it's just not had EU testing so can't be sold as such. However, if a tyre has NHS stampted on it, it should in theory fail an MOT. However, the majority of testers wouldn't consider checking a dirty tyre for stamps. |
I've decided to take a chance and order one.
I'll post again when it arrives. The one currently fitted to my bike is stamped DOT. Not sure what could have changed to suddenly make the 'same' tyre NHS. |
It wouldn't concern me in the slightest.

Update
After placing an order with Pneus-Online, I eventually received a reply to my email inquiring as to whether the NHS information was correct.
Their reply contained the following... "We would like to confirm that the tyre is indeed marked NHS and can be used only off-road or for racing purposes." A day later the tyre arrived and sure enough it is stamped DOT, just like the one currently fitted to my bike. https://photos.smugmug.com/photos/i-...-PSWwtQm-L.jpg https://photos.smugmug.com/photos/i-...-7jgjW43-L.jpg |
