Multitool comparison
 

Hi All

I'm actualy looking for a new multitool after my old Victorinox somehow got wings and decided to disapear. I'd like to find the best one available, it's the most used/usefull thing for me on the road (ok, except the bike and maybe WD40 :-)

I have to say that I know only the Victorinox well and that I tried to compare the others by chance... Any corrections welcome!

Do you know about another tool worth considering? Anybody any additional evaluations? ? Any other suggestions?

i have both the swisstool and the leatherman pst 2.. gotta admit the swisstool seems better built but its bulky and heavy so it usually stays at home.
The leatherguy has a permanent adress in my riding jacket together with a tooladapter and the various allen key bits for my XT

I also use a Leatherman Wave, it stays in my jacket pocket, never leave home without it!

Theres only one - Leatherman - ive had my Supertool for 10 years, and dont go on any trip without it, can be a little slow to open compared to a Gerber say , but its simple, tough and it works very well - they are a little stiff to open when you first buy them, so soak it in WD 40 for a day and open and close all the tools a few times. They are expensive here in the UK (£80) and in europe too - but if you know anyone heading to the USA , get them to go to Walmart where the Supertool 200 is $50 !!! (€ 40).

There was a comparo in OZ Choice mag .. similar to the Brit Which mag..

Leatherman "Crunch" the one with the MOLE GRIPS....... i had mine 3 years till a light fingered Bulgarian pinched it :censored:....... It was in daily use, I would rather have left home without my Mobile phone......:thumbup1:

I have had a wave for a little over ayear now, it has these particualr features which i like.
two blades one serrated, one not.
a scissors, very useful far more times than you would think.
facility for fixing a jigsaw blade to it. the blade i keep in it cuts wood up to 2" dia easily.
plus the usual assortment of funtions. probably the single mos important is the scisors.

Leatherman Supertool is indispensable.

I just lost my Supertool ,sadly they are no longer made , so I replaced it with a new Wave , I think it is a little bigger than the old version .
I really like it ,especially the scissors and the external knife blades.

Does not matter which one..I have the Swiss Tool .. I have broken/ruined 3 of them all by abusing them and generally beating them to hell...each time i have sent it back to victornox to get fixed and they have replaced it it a new one for free.. no hassels what so ever..(I never even had the receipt the only complaint i have is on the 3rd send back i send my textile case with it.. and it came back in a new leather one.. (i like textile better).. They are all regardless of brand incredibly useful, So in that aspect i dont think it matters which one, Victornox, gerber, leatherman, ect (as long as it is a "good" brand) It is the lifetime warranty that make the difference for me.. Gerber wanted 98$ to fix a 97$ tool?????:confused1::confused1::confused1:.

there is no substitute for proper tools but for odd little jobs and to carry around at all times these things are great to have. it doesnt have to be any particular brand, find out which one suits you the most. they all have some tools youre not going to use much, but the flick out gerber pliers might swing it for you or the wave's outside one handed blades or the victorinox' chunkyness.
all i will say is spend a bit of money and get an original big-brand make, because those chinese copies on ebay, or those naff "gifts" you get at christmas are made of cheese and will let you down 1st chance they get.
ive used a leatherman wave (1st gen) for years and its the dogs bollocks.

I decided about 2 months ago on the Leatherman Surge. Same basic tools as the Wave, but just a bit bigger/heftier. Big pluses are 4 major tools on the outside of the thing, so no need to root around inside for straight blade, serrated blade, scissors, and hack saw. Minus is that the stainless steel version I have can grow some rusty looking spots after a good soaking. Shoulda sprung for the titanium or whatever it was.

It's been good for opening beers in 3 countries so far!

Leatherman everytime for me.
Had an original in my pocket for the last 11 years. Could probably write a book about the situations it's got me both in and out of.
Also got a wave on standby ready for the originals retirement, it keeps getting put back though! Have used the wave a fair bit and it's great, much comfier in your hand, has scissors, 2 blades etc. A little heavier and bulkier than the original but still very good IMO.
A few friends have the crunch and they all swear by it.
Not had much use of any gerbils but some armies have them as standard issue so they can't be that bad?
