Off the bike footwear
 

Hi all I was wondering what everyone uses as Camp shoes or general off the bike footwear. On the bike I use alt-bergs and will do most of my other walking in them, but sometimes I want something smaller/lighter. I have had a look (on line) at the ones adventure-spec sells (Travel Footwear - Technica Travel Shoe - adventure-spec.com: Off-Road Adventure Motorcycling gear,UK,enduro,rally,rallye,touring,rtw,mx). I like the looks of them but I know nothing about them. Normal walking boots (what I normally live) take up way too much room in the panniers, normal trainers don’t deal well with being crushed, and I am not a sandal kinda guy (I have tried teva in the past but don’t tent to wear them much).

Sandals or Converse Allstars, depending on the weather. Neither take up much space in the bags.

Hi Zander I've had a pair of these for a couple of years and they're the business. You can do some serious walking in them and they pack down flat. Sandles are the way to go.

Obviously the manufacturers have a different definition of waterproof than I have...

I thought it was a bit optimistic too, ha ha.

+1 for sandals. With socks is OK because people will assume you're German from the motorbikes anyway :laugh: :surrender:

Oh No No No No.....not with socks, thats just wrong...:thumbdown:

crocs, (the pukka ones, not market knock offs)
indestructable, comfortable, fairly smart looking when clean, socks or not, wash in the basin, shake to dry.

The Keens are the best off the bike travel shoes I've found. Good for everything. They pack small, you can walk all day, go into rivers and streams, and to dress up the look, just add socks. They almost pass for regular shoes. They also last and don't break! Not cheap but worth the money.

The only downside I've found is after wearing them for weeks on end is "tiger feet" You do get the most comical tan lines. It gave me hours of amusement and I just couldn't get that tune out of my head. Socks are for wimps!

Maybe Cesar conquered the world on sandals, but to me that only shows that their time is over :smartass:

Anyways these are Adidas Sambas and (for Trainers) they pack down pretty small and look much better and much less touristy than any kind of sandal ever could...

But then again I like to hang out in funky places from time to time :D

Granted they don't last long and they look cheap as hell, but they are cheap, easily replacable almost everywhere and recognized around the globe as a sign for "I don't have a lot of money".

Good sandals is are decadend and totaly not in the spirit with adventure travel!

Birkenstock are the only sandal in my book :thumbup1:

+1 for crocs (though I also use croc-alikes).

They don't pack down quite as well as some ultralightweight sandles but the two-position strap means they are ideal for muslim/hindu countries where you are expected to slip your shoes off when entering.
