plastic jerrycan question ?

I carry a 5 Liter Jerrycan, plastic, very strong hard plastic, made for fuel. I used it for fuel for a long time.

I would like to use it for water. Anyone done that ? I mean I can fill in water, but will I ever get rid of the fuel taste ?

You will not get rid of the fuel taste or smell so it's defenatly not recommended. It's not even recommended to put diesel in petorl containers.
