I don't get it... won't using tank side bags protect the tank in a fall by default? How do those rubber suction cups protect the tank? http://www.horizonsunlimited.com/ubb/confused.gif

I guess he means the damage to your tank paint by the side bags rubbing, not the bike falling over.

I bought a film from these guys and it went on nice and seemed to do the job. Won't work for complex curves though. You would need to cut into a couple of pieces.

I can confirm that hitting a crash barrier side on at high speed with a side-bag full of tools does no damage to the tank of a GS-PD. The paint was slightly scuffed, but only adds to the 'rugged' look of the bike.
