Bike electrics?

I am hoping on taking a laptop on a RTW trip with me. The question is charging it on the bike. The PC needs 16 volts to charge it, and a bike runs on 12 volts. Is it possible to step up in voltage?

Cheers
Dominic.

Hi Dominic,
I'm no electronics expert, but I'd check with your local Radio Shack (or local electronics shop) for a converter, it shouldn't be hard to find.
A decent employee there might be able to help you plan wiring it up as well if you can get a hold of a wiring diagram for your bike.

Best of luck,
Wright

Dominic,

Many laptop manufacturers offer power adaptors to enable them to be used in cars, which of course run the same 13.8 volts as your bike. Also, many devices are tolerant of voltage fluctuations - e.g. 12v-20v rather than exactly 16v.

I'd suggest you contact the manufacturer first and then take things from there.

Andy
