Buying gear in India
I am plaaning an Enfield trip in India later in the year, and would like to hear from anyone who can tell about the availability of riding gear in India. Things like boots, leathers, helmets, etc. Am I better off buying certain things there, or buying the things I don't already have in Australia and carting it with me? Surely leather stuff is cheaper in India?

Take the gear with you - you'll have a hard time finding any quality riding gear.
In India most motorcycle riders don't wear more than the usual pants, sandles and short-sleeved shirt. ------------------ Bruce Clarke brclarke@islandnet.com www.islandnet.com/~brclarke |
Riding gear in India
Hi,
Regarding riding gear in India. The heat can get upto 50C in most parts of the country anytime between apr-jun. Also traffic speeds in india are painfully slow in the cities. The bullet 500 (i own one too) has a top speed of 115 KMPH with 60-70 being the average crusing speed on highways provided the roads are good (which is rare) so you'll most likely be going 50KMPH in 30C temperature on a 1950s bike. Riding gear would be more cumbersome than helpful. If you still wish to carry some gear keep it to the minimal. Helmet / gloves / jacket. Make sure you buy mesh-tex jacket as the ventilation will be necessary unless your on a weight loss program (joke). I rarely use my alpinestars body armour Only when i ride my Suzuki katana 600 down to goa from bombay. So don't stress on gear. Trust me there will be a lot more to stress on once you get down there. If your passing bombay, mail me and we can meet up for beers and wish you bon voyage. (kabir.grewal@gmail.com) Cheers. |
