Carrying Jerry cans
Has anyone had any hassle laying jerry cans down to carry them? I notice a few two wheel riders with the can under their panniers and my own sidecar set up will work better if I can lay 10 litre cans down with the handle vertical and filler to the top.
I have however seen advice that submerging the filler O-ring and constantly having the expansion volume away from the handle can cause leaks. Is this just the suppliers line for dealing with complaints or a real world issue? Do people carry spare seals? Andy |
Can can
If it can leak it will. That said I carried a big jerry can on my sidecar with the lid upwards and I plummed in a gas line thru the top and used a on board motorcycle fuel pump to get the gas into my main tank.

Thanks Bill. Glad to see there are other more of us out there with the proper number of wheels :D.
The Bonneville's range is a rubbish 150 miles and includes a fuel tap set up that's so restrictive it won't even stand an inline filter as standard :(. Normally this is fine, but planning a ride into Morocco with a mate on a Bullet it makes sense for me to carry enough fuel for both bikes when out on the piste (that doesn't involve beer I'm told :innocent:) . As I'll only use this set up once a year tops I'm keeping it simple but thinking about taking off the heavy body and going with a MX type load platform. Still at the planning stage, so lots of time to experiment. Andy |
