i have been very loyal to the continental tkc 70 and 80, that I have used in my GSA since 2008. I have been heard about the new model from dunlop.
Mission
any opinions for long distance use with some incursions on dirt roads and a heavy bike (2 people and luggage)
I used the 80 in. South America and against all odds the were great - 13.000km and a lot of sand in Bolivia :-)

Some of the reviews from the US seem almost too good to be true. TKC70s are great (my wife uses them), I use K60 scouts for their longevity and price in UK - I find them great for me.
I’ve been interested in these and will check out the price in the UK - I’m also leaning towards trying Motoz but they’re a lot more money than the Heidis.

I’d be interested in any responses to this thread.

Last winter I did a 25,000 km tour of Southern Africa and I used Dunlop Trailmax Mission for second half. After 15,000 km, I could barely see any wear on them. I'm hooked.


The only drawback is that the sidewalls are so tough, it took four people to mount the rear tire on. On the bright side, the dealer who sold me that tire told me that another guy on a big KTM had a flat and didn't even notice it, so conceivably, one could ride with a flat to some mechanic shop and have puncture fixed there.

I’ve had the same with Michelin Deserts. Really hard to fit but the sidewalls are so strong you can run them flat. Last forever as well .

Since my last post I have tried a rear.
They do indeed last for a long time. It was put on in Huston, went down to Villa O’Higgins, back up to Buenos Aires and home to UK - doesn’t look half worn, although it has squared off somewhat.

I was on a big bike, solo, relatively light and travelling slowly - I believe that speed and associated heat wears tyres out quickly.
The other thing I would say about them is they’re not good in slippery conditions such as mud and sand. I know that only knobblies are but I want traction and it wasn’t forthcoming. No problems on gravel.

I know these are popular but, for me, I won’t be buying again, there’s so many good tyres out there nowadays.
I’ve used K60s for years and will go back to them but for an extended trip with the possibility of slippery surfaces I’d like to try the new K60 Ranger.
