Fixing Plastic Fuel Tank Question
 

hi guy's
i've got a leak from the tank on my ktm right at the point where it mounts on the frame rubber mount,should i get it welded or is there a better way?

Are you sure the tank is thermoplast?

Usually a cracked or punctured plastic tank is a write off.

well it's a ktm 525mxc standard 13l tank.....loz

cracked an acerbis tank (plastic) on an xt 500 years ago and used a soldering iron to seal it up by melting as a bodge!
lasted long enough to finish the trip.

If the tank's material allows plastic welding is by far the best option. From the description of the damage I take that your chances of a permanent solution might not be too good. Good luck.

This is a little too late for this answer, but if anyone else is reading it...........

I was a timber cutter for many years and often your chainsaw gets hit with a falling limb. There goes the gas tank. Use the tuna fish can from your lunch bag and cut your plastic milk/water jug into small pieces. Use the muddy spot from pouring out your water as a place to build a small fire to melt the milk jug pieces to almost boiling and pour it over the crack, forcing the hot, gooey stuff in as far as you can. You have already pjoured the rest all around the crack and smoothed it out with your wedge hatchet or if you don't have one of those, use your spatula from your cooking kit. When it cools it will have a good, strong seal and last for a long time. You can also fix cracked battery casings the same way.
