Givi experiences?
I'm considering using Givi hardcases on my Happy Trails side rack. Anyone had good or bad experience with Givi bags in rough conditions? I've used them before on road trips and really like them. I'm just concerned about how rugged they are compared to aluminum cases. Thanks!

There is a discussion about Givi's on the adventure riders board.

Hi,
I used Givi boxes on my Tenere over 5 years travelling to and around India, Pakistan and Nepal. Once I'd got the racks strengthened, they were great and extremely strong - some of the best crash protectors made! It was only when I slid down the road in India and hit a kerb that one suffered real damage - it was ripped off the bike and the lid broke off. But the box was OK and could have been reused with a new lid. The only downside is the way they open - you really have to take them off to open them without the contents falling out! And the curved shaping affects how you pack them. I'm now using ally boxes which open from the top (while still attached) and are a better shape for packing. But if you like Givi luggage then I say 'go for it'! |
they do side cases now with two openings, the normal 2 halves like usual and a little door in the top with a combination lock so you can get in without dropping the contents or taking the case off the rack.
to be honest from what ive seen this little door looks rather fragile, and the cases are expensive ------------------ dave |
My Givi querie is not related to the boxes, but rather to the Givi pannier frames:
Does anyone have any experience with the PL series Givi tubular pannier frames? I am busy researching for my Domminator and want to see what I can start crossing off the list, or moving to No. 1 Thanks! http://www.horizonsunlimited.com/ubb/smile.gif (am also doing the ground work on Touratech, Metal Mule, Overland Solutions, Tesch and Zega... ) ------------------ If you don't have bugs in your teeth, you haven't been grinning enough!
