Hard Panniers - R100GS
 

Dis-regarding the debates on hard / soft options, can anyone save me re-inventing the wheel ? I want to get some boxes made for my '89 R100GS. Has anyone any plans (I've read the AMH etc, its actuals I'm after),
Useful comments regarding mounting to said bike also welcome !

Did you try Touratech? I have a pair of their boxes on my GS. Not only are they completely wtaerproof (which is nice) but they are also pretty strong. Mine survived a tumble with only a couple of dents. No splits ! Highly recommended.

One inexpensive option used here in Oz is cutting the tops off plastic 20 lt jerry cans and mounting those with a canvas elasticated cover, all home made. (This resolves the hard/soft pannier debate as these are both.)
An American manufacturer in Evergreen, Colorado makes aluminum boxes and sells spare parts such as the rubber mounting "pucks". Otherwise, obtain 4 circular hard rubber mounts from a rubber supplier, and use those in the corners of the BMW type racks with bolts thru the middle. Another option is to use steel ex army ammunition boxes but they're a bit heavy.
