ToolTubes - What's in yours???
 

We all know how useful ToolTubes are but what have you got in yours???
Ideas and inspiration wanted!!!

Tire change and patching stuff, along with spare tubes and a couple of bulbs. If there's anything else in there I can't remember what it is, which means I'm probably carrying duplicates. I've got tool tubes on each of two bikes, and my goal is to always have certain items with me, no matter whether I'm traveling heavily-laden or very light. I don't always carry a full toolkit, spare parts, extra fasteners, and all the rest, but I've always got bulbs and the means to address flat tires.

Mine just has a tool roll. In that is several sockets, T handle and extension, two spanners, two Torx sockets, a small mole wrench, Allen keys, Knipex pliers (brilliant tool imo, replacing several spanners), box cutter, and a pen with duct tape wound round it.

Stainless baling wire and duct tape! 2 meters electrical wire, a spare bulb for testing, necessary tools for the bike to do most stuff including torque wrench. Of course tire repair tools, a small squeeze bottle of TriFlow lube, hemostat forceps - the ultimate needle nose pliers and great for picking up little things that have fallen in the wrong place...
Small triangular file, electrical tape, BMW tie-down strap to hold "anything" on or down or whatever.
For our RTW, I took more, including a bag of nuts and bolts.

My tool kit wrapped in a Cruz Tools tool roll. A couple of extra control levers, some extra long HD zip ties, tire levers and thats about it.

A multi-bit screwdriver, 2 t-bar handles (3/8" and 1/2"), 2 extension bars for the smaller T-bar (4" and 8"), a 3/8 to 1/2 adaptor then some allen and hex-nut sockets. It's full!

In the top-box my delightful 5-45ft-lb mini torque wrench and in another tooltube made from drainpipe there's a can of "puncture rescue".

With all that I can take off wheels, brakes, fairing, tank, carbs etc.

As always, I hope it will all be stuff I carried for nothing!

I've been splitting my tool kit in half (or taking two kits depending on how you want to look at it :rofl:) One is the main kit that has just about everything experience has taught me I'm likely to need - most of the stuff mentioned above. No torque wrench though. If I get to the stage of needing one of those I'm likely to be beyond roadside fixes.

The second kit is much smaller and just contains a few spanners in the common sizes, pliers, screwdrivers and a few nuts and bolts. That is kept handy - usually in the tank bag - for dealing with simple stuff (loose bolts mainly). The main kit can then be packed away or locked up (depends which bike I'm on). What I have found makes a difference (on my Japanese stuff) is taking JIS screwdriver bits. They actually undo crossheaded screws without mangling the heads - something I'm far more likely to do in a rush at the side of the road.

+1 for JIS bits! Most people think they're Phillips - they're NOT Phillips on Japanese bikes.
