Zumo advice this time please
I've mounted a Garmin Zumo on my XTZ directly onto the cockpit subframe (where the clocks used to be) and there's an IMO mounted there next to it.
My question this time is this - has anybody used the bog standard Garmin Zumo RAM mount on a serious off road trip ? Touratech sell their own mount and their website says that my Morocco trip will be a complete disaster and the standard mount will fail if I don't buy theirs for £72 + p&P. But £72 buys around 800 miles worth of petrol in my book - do I really need the Touratech mount to cope with the corrugations ? Cheers Dick |
Zumo and Adventure Riding
There's been some discussion on the Zumo forum, sample of one of the threads above. General consensus is the standard mount is OK, certainly I never had any problem with the standard mount and a 2610 on pistes. If I can get the bu88er working properly I shall be taking my 550 to Morocco at the end of the month using standard mount. Tim |
i have a Garmin Street Pilot3(which weighs twice as much as the Zumo) with a standard RAM mount on my XTZ750 and it survived green laning without issue :thumbup1:

Standard Mount
Hi
Just completed 6000k trip through Namibia, Botswana and Zambia with pillion and lots of riding was off road including serious corrigations and encountered no problems with standard mount. My friends rear shock packed up on the piste so mount did well!! My only gripe was that I found it too low and would have preferred it located higher on the cockpit to read when riding.
