110 side tanks

Can anyone tell me about fitting the extra side tanks to a 110? As it was factory fitted can it be bought as an aftermarket kit? if so where can i get one from and how difficult is it to fit, ie does it include brackets thats need welding on?

I have considered the options of 110 LR side tanks but decided that they are just too damned expensive, complicated and generally tiresome. Instead I intend to get 2 ex military standard side lockers for jerry cans, one locker for each side, this gives 40 lites or 9 gallons per side without the hassle of pipes etc, not to mention the very high cost of dedicated tanks that hold just 5 gallons more each plus fitting and filler/discharge arrangements. It hardly a hardship to transfer by hand to a fuel tank, and probably is only neccessary in seriously remote spots anyway. Internally I'll have a 100 litre plastic tank (from Woick, Germany) with a simple pump/tube to top up the main tank, plus a 100 litre water tank.

If you really want side tanks they are available from Woick, Daerr and Ex-Tec, all in Germany. As I said before, they cost a packet plus fitting.

not sure if we are talking about the same thing, im thinking about the tanks that are similar to the arrangement that is found in the 90's ie under the drivers seat next to the chassis beam.

That's right - one under the drivers seat if you go for the factory version, or one under each of the floor panels if you go for the non std versions - either way expensive and involves much work and cost.

I also think it's a wate of money, especially when in these days you can get diesel almost everyhwere. What happen to your project of fitting side lockers? that will do the job! and you can carry 2 jerrycans with diesel and 2 with water...

We are very much still at the planning stage of our trip. October this year we should start actually doing stuff. Check our website to see what we do, when ever we get around to doing it.
