Alarm systems
Hi all
I've got dead bolts on all three doors of my Defender Hardtop but am keen to fit a motion sensor alarm as extra security. Ideally I'm looking for one that is key activated (by an extra lock barrell fitted somewhere) - as I don't fancy those remote gizmos - and for it to be activated by either the dors being opened or movement inside the vehicle. Don't want an imobiliser or anything complicated! Maplins seems the obvious choice, and sure, they do basic systems but they are all use those remote bleepers. Anyone got any ideas where I could get a low-cost key ativated system? thanks! Huey |
Huey, cant help you on the alarm, but a key operated battery isolator is another good deterent, they are listed in the Durite catalogue.

Buy parts from RS, CPC or Farnell and build it yourself. At last you will know how it works and how it is connected so that you can disable it when it goes haywire. Hue, under which circumstances you imagine such a device could play an essential part in preventing your vehicle otr its content from being stolen? ------------------ Roman (UK) www.overlandcruiser.info |

I would personaaly go for the battery isolator as recommended by Col, simple switch or key and can be fairly well hidden. I came across at least two vehicles in Africa where the alarms were constantly playing up,one of which had become immobilised and cost the owners a seeveral days and a small fortune to get fixed - could be potentially lethal in the desert!! thanks for the tips guys.
I've put removable marine style cut out switches on both batteries, and am goign to fit a cut out switch to the fuel stop solonoid . . . so hopefully the vehicle itself is secure enough. The alarm was more as a deterrant if anyone should try and break in. Yet more catalogues on order . . . cheers Huey |
