Anyone using a Discovery Series 2?
These seem to be pretty good value at the minute, with the new Disco 3 just out.
I was wondering if anyone has done any overland travel with one, and what they thought of it. Yes, I know about being chock full of electronics, 3 ECUs, etc.! http://www.horizonsunlimited.com/ubb/smile.gif Cheers, Nick. ------------------ Nick Taylor www.exerro.com ------------------ 1996 BMW F650 1996 300 TDi 90 1997 NAS D90 ST #685 1998 Camel Trophy 110 CT47 [This message has been edited by nickt (edited 22 November 2004).] |

Nick, it might also pay to post this on some of the Australian boards, as they get used off the beaten track over that way.

Ah, good idea, I'll check them out.
Not decided TD5 or V8 yet! I like the 4.6, but it's only a US option... http://www.horizonsunlimited.com/ubb/frown.gif Rgds, Nick. ------------------ Nick Taylor www.exerro.com ------------------ 1996 BMW F650 1996 300 TDi 90 1997 NAS D90 ST #685 1998 Camel Trophy 110 CT47 |
I used two Disco II V8s in the Sahara - lovely wagons, lovely engines, but dont let local mechanics (even supposed LR dealers) anywhere near them - they made a real dogs breakfast of one of them and parts are not cheap. Wonderful cars, I liked them a lot. They won a lot of fans too.
*edit* Equally, I had one (Td5) on test from the local main dealer in the UK when they first came out, and the mass of electronics freaked me a bit. I wouldnt want to overland one for that reason, even though it was a formidable beast offroad (river crossings, peat bog, rock-crawling) [This message has been edited by Runner (edited 23 November 2004).] |
Nick this is also another place to check out http://www.me4x4.info/ it is a UAE based forum.
I know there are a few SII disco running around in the desert out there that are on the forum. Col |
Hi Nick,
Sorry to miss you earlier this year.I had a Series II V8 for 6 years.Went all round rock and sand deserts of Oman and UAE in it several times.Fitted after market rear shockers and 255 R70 16 AT tyres and it would go everywhere the LCs went provided I picked the best line.Never had a mechanical problem, great vehicle! Downsides!Small fuel tank(depends where you are),usual crap with non working peripheral gizmos like windows and doorlocks. Had I still been in ME I would have bought another for the same reason as you. Latterly owned a 4.8l Patrol...now there's a vehicle!!!! |
