Eberspacher (non) heater
Hi,
Anyone experienced this problem with their Eber heater? It's electrically working (timer unit works), and when I switch it on from the dash it spools up (the usual jet engine noise, worth buying for that alone), but it isn't heating. I've not pulled it apart yet, as it's not exactly conveniently located in the engine bay, just wondering if anyone has any ideas? The technical support page at Eberspacher wasn't much help. Warning: Dont let it fail to start too often!
Hi Nick, A couple of suggestions. Assuming there is plenty of fuel and it gives up trying to start after 30 seconds, then re-tries a couple of times and then gives up then I suspect the glow pin may have gone.
If you can do it easily measure the current whilst it is trying to start, it should be taking 7 to 10 amps (at 12 volts). The real answer is to plug in the diagnostic unit and check the fault codes. The diagnostic unit costs around £200 but it worth having. Warning: if you try to start it too many times (ten?) without success it will lock-up (with error code 050) and then it can not be started without clearing the fault with the diagnostic unit. |
fault diagnosis: ebespacher
easiest way is go to a truckstop and talk to a few truckers, those guys have them in their trucks. they usually know who can fix em cheap too.:thumbup1:

i had similar problem
hi Nick
i have little eberspecher bought via ebay. It worked fine for about 6 months then I started to get the similar problem that you are having. Eventually fixed in Istanbul at eberspecher dealer, they stripped each component out and checked individually. Eventually fault defined as being on the main circuit board. Swapped board ($75 i think) and it has worked perfectly ever since. Not necessarily a solution but maybe a clue for you. Phil. |
