Ex-army Bedford MJ or Leyland/Daf 45

Having travelled from Ireland to South Africa in a 1983 Range Rover a couple of years ago the travel bug is biting again but this time I am considering a bigger vehicle. My (limited) research so far has turned up the Bedford MJ series or the Daf 45. Has anyone had experience in these trucks - fuel consumption, parts, reliability etc.
