Land Cruiser HZJ77HV
 

Hi,

A couple of months ago, my much loved Land Cruiser HDJ80 had an unplanned excursion into a telegraph pole and sadly went off to overland heaven.

I decided to go down the 'import from Japan' route for a replacement one, and have opted to bring over a HZJ77HV as it seemend like a nice change form an 80, had part-time 4wd (which i prefer) and had that nice '70' look. According to the specs/pics etc, this is a 4.2 normally aspirated 6 cyl lwb station wagon with leaf spring suspension and whatnot, that looks a little like a slightly smaller HJ78 troopy. However, try as I might, I'm struggling to find much info about these in Europe - so I'm thinking that determining parts compatability prior to prepping it might be a bit of a chore.

I therefore wonder if anyone out there either has one or knows much about them. Im particularly interested in the availability/compatability of parts and the availability of the 'usual' mod components. Also, any information about the foibles of this particular model would be greatly appreciated.

So your HDJ80 is gone? What a loss!

You may have luck finding info about HZJ77HV on some Toyota fora, such as http://www.pirate4x4.com/tech/ pr http://www.ih8mud.com/ih8mud-tech.html. Mind you, these are mostly populateded by
rock crawling adolescents, so be patient.

Getting S/H parts in good condition is becoming a problem (even for early nineties examples) as they become more rare and the parts become worn beyond repair. Be prepared to pay factory prices for new parts. I wouldn't recommend buying parts in the UK, specially from car breakers - they ask more for scrap than you'd pay in NL or Belgium for a new part.
